Mushroom Cultivation 101

What will we do in the class? We’ll explore the fascinating world of fungi, including the life cycle of mushrooms, ideal conditions for growing at home, and diverse cultivation techniques. Engage in hands-on learning as you learn different methods of growing edible mushrooms in the home and garden. (More details below!)
What should I bring? Pen and paper, everything else will be provided.
What is included? Each participant will leave with their choice of a Garden Grow Block to take home.

This hands-on course provides an immersive introduction to the fascinating world of mushroom cultivation. Whether you're an avid gardener, a culinary enthusiast, or simply intrigued by the idea of growing your own food, this course offers a comprehensive overview of the techniques and principles behind successful mushroom cultivation.
All participants will receive their choice of Garden Grow Block , grain spawn, or plug spawn to take home after the course.
Throughout the duration of the course, participants will:
Gain a foundational understanding of mushroom biology, including the life cycle of fungi and the ecological role of mushrooms in nature.
Learn about different mushroom species commonly cultivated for culinary and medicinal purposes, such as oyster mushrooms, shiitake, and lion's mane.
Explore the various methods of mushroom cultivation, including indoor and outdoor techniques, as well as different substrate options.
Hands on demonstration of how to set up an outdoor straw bed in your back yard
Receive practical instruction on setting up and maintaining simple at-home mushroom growing environments.
Go on a tour of our facility and participate in hands-on demonstrations of key cultivation techniques, such as inoculation, fruiting, and harvesting.
Discuss common challenges and troubleshooting strategies for maintaining healthy mushroom crops.
Receive resources and recommendations for further learning and exploration in the field of mycology.
Participants will leave with the knowledge, confidence, and supplies to embark on their own mushroom growing adventures, whether for personal enjoyment, culinary experimentation, or even small-scale commercial production.
